As the New Year's Eve approaches, let's briefly review my 2019.
Academics#
At the beginning of 2019, I was at home writing my thesis, titled “Research on the Argumentation of the Heart Theory in .” It was quite smooth to write, perhaps I am really more suited for research?
After finishing my thesis, I also wrote a summary of thesis writing methods—“My Thoughts on Literature Reading and Thesis Writing Methods”. This article was even requested for authorization to reprint by the “Central Committee of the Communist Youth League.” But I don’t know if it was actually reprinted later…
After completing my thesis, I was still quite inspired and wrote a philosophical piece titled “How is Artificial Consciousness Possible?”. Looking back, studying philosophy was indeed very interesting. I can't help but praise my choice of graduate major as very correct.
The two short years of graduate life passed quickly, yet the serene campus of Zhongda and the quiet school paths remain vivid in my memory.
Work#
In the half year since graduation, I have worked on several projects and many activities, notably:
- Q Sound Baby: I followed it from the first line of code to the release of version 1.0, truly treating it like a treasure.
- Green Diamond Activities: In the two months before the New Year, I organized two S-level activities, Green Diamond 12th Anniversary and Spring Festival Red Envelope.
Although it was tiring, my skills have indeed improved significantly through the challenges of work.
I also gave two presentations within the team and business line:
- “Hippy Client Development Sharing for Q Sound Baby”
- “React 16: Fiber, Hooks, Concurrent”
This year, I took some time to read the React source code and gained some insights into both React and Hippy's source code. Besides sharing some Hippy experiences internally, I also wrote a series of articles analyzing the React source code, as well as some articles on web security at the beginning of the year, totaling over 10 articles, averaging one per month.
Side Projects#
I feel ashamed to say that my original plan for this year was to develop Double Birthday Diary 3.0, but I missed the deadline again, feeling that the technical solution still needs further optimization. Currently, the new version is 60% complete, hoping to launch it in 2020~
However, the online version of Double Birthday Diary has a very stable DAU, and users occasionally leave messages urging updates or giving encouragement, which is one of the reasons I continue to work on it.
Double Birthday Diary has also been featured in Guangzhou Daily and some domestic media, which is another reason that motivates me to strive for perfection~
Thank you all.
Footprints#
- USA: I was fortunate to attend WWDC. (Attached: Travelogue)
- Danxia Mountain: A simple graduation trip~
- Shunde (team building), Dapeng (team building)
- Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hefei…
I met with Teacher Bobo in the USA, and met with Weijiang in Shenzhen, and gathered with Xiao Wangrui & Yang Yuxuan in Shenzhen. It had been years since we last met.
Also, I met my idol (PCG colleague) @Zhong Wenze in the USA, and was fortunate to be interviewed for his Weibo, hehe~
Games#
Switch:
- The Legend of Zelda: The game I played during the New Year of 2019, completed it.
- Hollow Knight: About 90%, just a little bit left to complete. Hollow Knight is the best in the world! (Zelda is the sky)
- Octopath Traveler: Played a bit when I had time, currently unlocked 5 characters.
- Child of Light: Played a bit when I had time.
- Slay the Spire: Played on PC, but it feels more portable on Switch.
- Diablo 3: Played one character, but later it was just grinding, feeling a bit sorry for the controller.
- Super Mario Party: Played at home with family.
- Super Dance 2019: Same as above. Bought a membership, but didn’t dance much afterward…
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker: A puzzle game, got a bit difficult later, only played about 50%.
- Super Mario Odyssey: 50%. Played a bit earlier, but haven’t opened it again, feeling a bit dizzy with its 3D.
PS4:
During the National Day holiday, I thought I would be bored alone in Shenzhen, so I got a PS4 to play God of War…
- God of War 4: 40%, got busy after National Day and didn’t play anymore.
- Red Dead Redemption 2: 0%. Borrowed the disc from a friend, still unopened, gathering dust.
Movies and TV Shows#
Movies:
- Avengers: Endgame: Watched three times in theaters, love you more than three thousand times.
- Spider-Man: Far From Home: Really liked it, rated it as one of my top 3 Marvel solo films, but later it was sad to hear that Spider-Man was going back to Sony… However, Disney managed to get a win back, and I’m really glad to see the third installment.
- Captain Marvel
- Ne Zha
- Joker
- Searching
- Better Days
- The Pianist
- Parasite: Reminded me of Burning, a somewhat heavy film.
- Saving Private Ryan
- Cast Away: An old movie, life's twists and turns, yet suddenly enlightening.
- I Am Sam
- Darkest Hour
- Green Book: Second watch, both the music and the plot are quite good, even though it took two hours to tell a small story, it didn’t feel dull.
- The Pianist
- The Birth of a Legend
- Good Will Hunting
- Big Hero 6
- The Lockdown
- The Indian Partner
TV Shows:
- Joy of Life: I rarely watch historical dramas, but this one was unexpectedly good.
- Your Turn to Kill: Ended poorly, the male lead vividly interpreted the term “Iron Fool.”
- Hanzawa Naoki: Top 3 Japanese dramas! The high-energy scenes were replayed over and over! It’s said that the second season will come out in April next year, looking forward to it! (Want to see left-parted Hanzawa vs right-parted Gumeimen, haha)
Anime:
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: A fantastic anime, not a single frame of animation was wasted, the stunning ukiyo-e style battles combined with ethereal BGM created high-energy moments, truly incredible. Later I followed the manga and am looking forward to next year's movie.
- My Hero Academia (Seasons 1-3): Didn’t watch much of the fourth season, it got a bit weak later. But the first three seasons were quite good, somewhat like Naruto?
- Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious: A nice short anime.
Documentaries:
- Faces
- Our Planet II
Reading#
- The Life of Matsuko Shou: Took half a year to read and still haven’t finished it…
- 84, Charing Cross Road: A missed connection over twenty years, separated by thousands of miles yet close at heart.
- Stories from the Sahara: I particularly like Sanmao, such a lovely, kind, and quirky girl.
- The Newcomer
- The Bonds of Shooting Stars
- A Man Called Ove: A warm novel, full of tenderness.
In the first half of the year, I averaged one book a month, but slacked off in the second half. I hope to maintain this next year.
Relationships#
This road is long, and you are uncertain. It remains difficult, so I won’t set any flags anymore.
I feel that liking someone is a very difficult thing, but I believe it can also be a very lucky thing.
So, such matters still depend on fate.
Drawing#
I have only completed 70% of the watercolor class, and in the first half of the year, I managed to paint every two weeks, but only painted once in the second half.
Cats#
After moving to Shenzhen, I adopted two cats, one is now a pig-like Ragdoll brother named “Glove,” and the other is a very mischievous American Shorthair sister named “Puff.” Although it’s a bit troublesome to take care of them, they are quite obedient and are my motivation to come home after work every day.
Now they are getting more clingy, as soon as I sit down, Glove will come over to hug my arm and lean on my shoulder, while Puff will try to lie on my lap on the other side…
Finally#
I have also collected some interesting little trinkets.
And also, this is my favorite song of 2019:
Having rambled on so much, I hope for 2020:
Eat breakfast, reflect often, sleep early, read more, be a bit braver, and continue doing what I love.
I live in an indescribable wait, casually waiting for any kind of future.
